I believe that all of the third partystudies regarding glucosamine show that it has little to no effect. It is mostly anecdotal evidence which usually means placebo. Still, try it. If it helps you then who cares why right?

Sign I am with you...I have freinds that swear by it also, but I did not think it did anything for me. I just have my own little vitamine program that I have used for a number of years, and I feel great. Also I stay physically very active doing all of my own work.

Same here...I know folks that swear by it, and some that say it did nothing...I've read all kinds of conflicting articles on it too...so how's a dummy to know???
The only thing I'm sure of is I maybe should have played the clarinet or something in the high school band instead of wrecking these knees playing football..
Oh well. I'll try it for 30 days and see...

Nothing dumb about you...you are trying to learn just like the rest of us.
please come back at the end of the 30 days and lets us know what you think. I think it is interesting there are so many different opinions about it. I do hope you are one of the ones it does help.

Oh well. I'll try it for 30 days and see... I have used for sore knees after Jogging, but I never noticed any benefit, although I have never stuck with it beyond a couple weeks.
I read the other day it can take up to 2 to 3 months before you notice any difference, so one month may not be enough.
Anyone tried Glycerin /Gelatin packets?

Gelatin must be taken disolved in OJ to make the absoption possible. Also, not for a short time. Won't begin working for several months and must be continured.

My dr did recommend glucosamine with sulfate but I never really felt any benefits there either. I'm just learning to live with all the aches and pains!

My understanding is not all glucosamine is made equal. If you buy cheap crap, it has only about 10% actual glucosamine and the rest filler. And yes, it needs to be taken regularly for a minimum of one month to make a difference but Happy is right as well. If we do not get the right vitamins and minerals we do NOT produce the things our bodies need nor will we heal old injuries. Also, some pain is due to foods we eat that are just not compatible for our digestive systems. Some foods MAKE us have pain. Each person is different. If you have a naturalist that is NOT trying to sell you their supplements, then you can get them to muscle test you for what will help with alleviating pain and producing healing. Beliefs make a BIG difference too. If you believe it is not fixable, then forget it. Your personal belief system will block any healing. Don't waste your money. You can correct your belief system tho. There are healing techniques that will help you adjust negative beliefs systems to those that are much more supportive.

Spirit...
2 massive knee operations...one in '64, one in'66...both kind of rare as they were both lateral meniscus (outside cartilage), along with varying degrees of ligament repair...and this was LONG before arthroscopic surgery...I have these really cute frankenscars on both of em...
I've always been active and for a long time it wasn't a big deal...but as I get older, they're starting to give me problems from time to time, particularly when it's cold, and when it's raining...nothing making me gimpy...more a pain in the ass thing. Believe me, there's never been anything negative in my approach to things and I played organized flag football, basketball and softball into my early 50's...
Although I believe strongly in mind over matter, it is as it is, so any advise would be helpful and greatly appreciated...

Oh, all my post was not directed to you. It was towards the efficacy of glucosamine or any other supplementation. I truly have seen many people that believe something will work for them and it does. Not necessarily because of the product they take either. Some people just naturally have the desire to believe and whole heartedly and innocently DO believe and it works. Us sceptics, well, I personally think we screw it up for ourselves because we are NOT naive and we question things. Does that make any sense?

I’ve been told that glucosamine was used on race horses long before people started taking it. These horses were able to race for years longer than normal.
I also agree with SE concerning how powerful our beliefs are. In this case, the beliefs of horse trainers also affect how their horses react. Beliefs are like trump cards when everyone else is playing “no trump”.
I take glucosamine when I feel like I need something for my joints. The next day, when I crack my knuckles, I swear they feel more fluid and the ecstasy is improved.
I know I'm crazy, but please don’t imprint me that I need to take this stuff for a month.

I've been taking (1) Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM product by "Enzyme Process", -(6) x a wk for years.
It co$ts $31.99 for a 180 tablet bottle. I give this particular product a V. Good Recommendation! Couldn't begin to recall how many Health Food Store
type products tried over the years for *Numerous Connective Tissue Injuries sustained, -once finding one that *Significantly assisted,
(& continues to do so; my Search was Over. The others promptly forgotten about. I 'credit' this particular product:
With actually providing some useful Building Blocks (that were otherwise lacking) to allow healing & great improvements which still, slowly continue.
Couldn't Care Less what some Lop-Sided Study, financed by 'drug monopolies' concludes! From MY Own Personal Experience;
It's Good Stuff Don't 'hold a torch' for other forms, etc.: Simply feel this particular product has:
*Bio-Available constituents, - & these in 'proper', Synergistic Amounts with each-other that work.

Glucosamine can take months to work. It's effects are not immediate. My mother began taking glucosamine/chondrotin several years ago for her right hip. She nearly stopped after one month, because she didn't notice any change; however after the 2nd month, she was greatly improved.

Glucosamine/Chondroitin My chiropractor was the one who initially suggested I take both..and I felt the changes in my legs and back after a month. My joints and muscles didn't ache as badly and my knees had less tendacy to hurt after being on my feet all day. From my understanding, one lubricates the joints and the other strengthens the muscles or something similiar to that.
I haven;t taken either for 9 months now because one of them messed with my stomach and I can tell I haven't had any because my back and knees have been hurting again.
I agree with Spirit about the mindset blocking the healing. And when our minds are clouded with stress and worry about other things our bodies tend to heal slower or not at all.
