Believe it or not, I'm not joking about this...even if my "epiphany" made me giggle.
All my life I've been asked "How do you stay so slim?"...which I've always answered "Genetics, I guess...because by all rights I should be extra-large: I eat when I'm hungry, I don't exercise, I eat what I want, when I want and have never counted calories."
But I've also heard a lot of people ask me "How can you forget to eat???!!" (I've accidently gone 2 or 3 days...which isn't smart, I know).
Then the other night when I was laying in bed telling myself that I needed to get up and fix something...and a lightbulb went off in my head...
OK, I'm on an anti-oxident kick for the first time in my life I accidently picked up "The Perricone Promise" at the dollar store, just assuming that title was one of my favorite kind of spy novel/mystery stories ~duh~ I got really desperate for something to read, so that stupid diet book fit the bill in a pinch. Lo and behold, it's basically an anti-inflammatory "program", and boy could I use that these days. (Owwwie ) What the heck, it was worth a try...and healthy all around, to boot. (Augh, I just found out that it's the diet Oprah's been promoting -- THAT was not the source of my "inspiration", lol.)
Anyway, I've always been a "creative cook" and often dream up recipes for dishes with ingredients I have on hand. (I like food, but I'm lazy and absolutely hate to cook for just myself...I've always been that way). Right now I have so many "healthy" anti-oxident/non-glysemic-carb foods in my house that it's...sickening ~grin~ Definitely out of character for me, after living on the "All-carb Diet" for so long. But it's like a painter being presented with an unlimited palette -- omg, the meals I could create -- even without a real kitchen.
Then I started catching on why I haven't really been eating all this (healthy) bounty: When I get a twinge of hunger, I "think"...I lay down and "create" something tasty in my mind, tinkering with proportions and ingredients and seasonings until I can practically taste it. And by the time I'm done, I'm FULL! It's as if my tastebuds are completely satisfied...as if I've really eaten what was on my mind.
I know it sounds crazy and impossible, but I realized I've been doing this all my life. I'm a big believer in "mind over matter", but had no idea I've been practicing it in this manner. (Although I've always been aware that I have a pretty active imagination ~grin~)
Seriously, though, I wonder if this "hunger-satisfaction-by-imagination" can be taught. Honest, I'm not crazy...or if I am, I suppose it's been in a "useful" way.
Has anyone else found that they can "conjure" up a satisfying meal this way? I'm sitting here sort of forcing down a snack of hummus, soy crisps, pumpkin seeds -- and those darn broccoli sprouts -- only because I know I should eat the stuff. But as soon as I typed my intent in the Kitchen Forum, my mind told me what it'd taste like and I already felt like I'd eaten it...mind INTO matter is the hard part for me, apparently. Hey, it sure cuts down on the grocery bill, though.

The "headache" reminds me to eat. I can go for 24 hours without eating, and have lots of times.

I actually made a turkey stew (or soup? ) in my little mini-crockpot today. It smelled really good all day long, but I haven't even tried it yet...just the thought of it already made me full.
(Yeh, weird, I know...but at least this time I actually USED tangible/real-life ingredients )

I forget to eat a lot of the time too.
Something else I do, is forget that I've just eaten and I eat again.

Well I imagined a pizza with extra topping last night before I went to bed, it wasn't enough so I had an extra one.
I laid in bed and was starving afterwards.
I've had a full English breakfast in bed this morning with toast and tea.
I'm still starving, I just haven't had to wash any dishes.
