I quit on January 4, 1989 at noon. Not that it was memorable or anything...

thatz a serious allergy cos there are smokers almost everywhere. how do you cope with this? It's usually not that bad but the timing wasn't good. It's winter with all the heaters in full but apparently the air filter was broken and i didn't know it was a smoking only cafe. The smoke inside was terrible. The moment i was inside, my coughing won't stop. I'm supposed to meet one of our distributors to hand over some docs before going to my next meeting. He didn't know of my allergy so..
And yup, it's really hard to cope with this allergy as i always need to stay on non-smoking rooms. I'm taking meds that supposed to take care of it but then not all the time. So if i marry a chain smoker, that would also mean my death. I remember posting a profile at another dating site a long time ago in which the intro line says: NO SMOKING HEARTS ONLY!

It's always great to hear of those who have quit!. My Dad smoked for over 30 years and we convinced him to quit, which he has never regretted. I have a sensitivity to it as well SB, and cannot be in a room very long with smokers. The main reason I don't hang out in public places that allow it. Too many bad memories associated with it as well.

I can definitely relate to that, now that you mention it. I spent some time in Tokyo in winter, and the Japanese men I was working with were all chain smokers, with the indoor temperature maintained at about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. We were working 20-30 hour days too, but we all got sick, one of the guys on the 'visitors' team (another American) ended up in the hospital.

I smoke. I pretend that I'm actually helping to keep children from starving to death if their parents lose their jobs at the cigarette company. Or I'm helping to put someone through college cause they earn enough money picking tabacco leaves.
And I'm also helping to keep the divorce rate down in some areas cause if they can afford to pay their bills since they are gainfully employed as cigarette packers they can keep their homes and so forth and that gives them one less thing to fight about which helps to keep things a little more harmonious and giving them one less reason to get a divorce. Got myself fooled pretty good don't I??

I never thought of it quite THAT way, Harley!
I just tell people that if I didn't smoke I'd be perfect and then they'd hate me.

I quit cold turkey on 12/31/03 and never picked up again. It's having the will power to quit, you can try everything to quit, but unless you don't really wanna quit, you won't.... Mind over Matter......

I had a 12 year 2.5 pack a day habit of Marlboro Reds. I quit cold turkey on June 2, 2003 and haven't went back since. Personally... I truly believe cold turkey is the way to go. When you want to smoke, replace that thought with something else. It can be done, but one has to decide they are going to do it.

Hypnosis worked for me, but it's rare. I was a 2.5 pack a day smoker, handed the hypnotist my cigarettes on my way out the door and never had another one...never even really craved one.

I'm glad I never got started smoking. When I was younger I puffed on two or three at times as I recall but that was all. Its a drug addiction just like any other no matter how you describe it. The tobacco companies used to put anything and everything in that product. With the sole purpose of getting people hooked on them. I have seen the list of chemicals they added to tobacco...some of those things were absolute poisons. How did they get away with that? I know how, money. Money to lobby in congress, money to pay off politicians, what have you.
The tobacco companies in my opinion were nothing more than drug dealers wearing suits. Maybe even worse in some ways than common drug dealers, most drug dealers don't intentionally add poisons to their products.

The really sad part is (and I'm included here as a smoker as well) is that one day....
.....we'll ALL quit smoking......one way or another.....(unless you're REALLY evil...then you have to worry about a DIFFERENT type of "smoking"....)

I also quit smoking through hypnosis 12 years ago. A physician performed the exercises and gave suggestions of replacing the smoking with a fitness oriented
activity . I now have better aerobic endurance that most 20 year olds.
Learn to love yourself and quit smoking.
