I think I've gained like twenty pounds and I'm too scared to check.

After Dan and I broke up my only comfort was food and I kept eating and stopped exercising....

And now I can really see the weight that I've gained and it's killing me inside. It's tearing me apart.

I want to lose it now.....for the past few days I've been drinking up to 6 glasses of water a day and seriously watching my carb intake, I've been walking up to 27 minutes on the treadmill but I don't know what else to do, I want to lose it fast....

Hi!

1. Eliminate all processes sugars from your diet...cakes, candies, sweet tea, sodas, ice cream, etc.
2. Eliminate all alcohol...very high calories
3. Eliminate aspartame a.k.a. nutra sweet...it kills the metabolism
4. Walk 3.5 miles (about 1.5 hours) on moderate terrain daily
5. Moderate the proportions at meals
6. Snack on fruits and vegetables only

I've been doing this since the end of January and have lost to date 60 pounds.

It's not a diet, but a lifestyle change.

I hope this helps,

David

I'm not certain aspartame slows the metabolic rate. I used to drink copious amounts of Coca Cola daily for 10 years. At my heaviest I was 244. I switched to Diet Coke. Since March I eliminated all sugars and processed foods from my diet (except for an occasional cookie or piece of cake). Here it is June and I'm at 222 lbs. Eliminating all those sinful things at once from your life could bring about suffering. Everything in strict moderation + exercise daily is a pretty good routine. Eat several small meals (5 or more) throughout the day rather than two or three large ones. Drink lots of cold water. The colder the better.

On aspartame, I Googled aspartame and metabolism and found several interesting links.

I found eliminating processes sugars like i sweet tea, ice cream, cakes, chewing gum, etc. to be as simple as eliminating alcohol or nicotine use.

Once I got over the first couple of weeks of cravings, I never misses any of it.

When I struggle to keep from indulging, I ask God for the strength to over come. He always provides it.

What are the links? If what those people are saying is that eliminating alcohol or nicotine (especially after long time use) to be simple, then I know for a fact they are spreading disingenuous information over the internet. Sugars can be just as difficult for some people to just "kick". Easy for some, difficult for others. Addiction is a powerful psychological/physiological condition.

I'm a recovering bipolar alcohol.
I have more issues that the Democratic Party.

In the last ten years I've spend more time in in-patient psych units than in motels.

Keeping that in mind, I asked God two years ago to remove the burden of alcohol use from me and he did.

This past January I did the same with with processed sugar and started excercising to loss 60 pound to date.

Seven years ago, my then finacee complained that my cigarette smoking bothered her allergies. Given the choice between a girl o a lung full of smoke, I threw the cigarettes away and never looked back.

I don't pretend to be a bastion of discipline because I'm not. Given all the hell I've brought on myself, I know and understand I'm weak.

The 12 step program as developed by Bill Wilson and all its ancestors can work for any personal problem if you work the programs consistently.

I also choose to surround myself with individuals who I want to emmulate. I.e. most of my closer friends are at church where the urge to drink and smoke is less.

Rule #1 to Recovery: Change your playgrounds and change you playmates.

I'm not gonna post links to other sites here about aspartame because I don't know this site's rules regarding such linkages.

Do know plenty of other people who have stoppped using cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine, marajuana, etc. They just need to admit they are powerless and ask for God's help.

There it is ... Great job uab! Eliminating the energy molecule fat feeds upon is as crucial as raising the metabolic rat through aerobic exercise. LipGloss, you also want to closely monitor your carbohydrate intake.

just don't make the mistake of not eating at all..you still need to bring nutrients into the body or the body will go on "shutdown" mode..and the metabolism will slow down. intake more protiens...fish..if you like fish is a good source..if you're needing your pasta...there are whole wheat pastas..not quite the same..but does the trick..and brown long grain rice vs white rice...anything that has been processed like white bread, white rice and white pastas...don't have the nutrients the body needs unless they are enriched...

the more fiber you eat works great too..when you look at labels for food..if the lable has 10 carbs and 2 fibers...subtract the 2 from the 10..you'll be getting 8 carbs...they sort of counteract each other..

they're right on the alcohol though..there are 9 kcals per gram in alcohol..and those are empty calories..

look for nutrient dense foods...how many calories are in what you're eating vs. fat grams, sugar grams carb grams..lowest in calorie..highest in protien..and middle ground for the rest is best..

also try to up your water intake...you should have at least 8 cups a day...I do 2 gallons..it was tough in the begining..but now I'd miss it if I didn't have it

Hon,

If you're still not feeling so good, just make a small change or two at a time so you don't feel overwhelmed. I read about that in a magazine and it's the best way to go. Here's a website where you can view a good number to choose from: http://www.smallstep.gov/sm_steps/sm_steps_index.html Being as young as you are those pounds will disappear really fast, it's at my age that they cling like crazy glue! and because I'm an emotional eater too and if I didn't watch myself I'd be as big as a HOUSE.

I don't follow any diets and I do eat sugar sometimes but I try to exercise to compensate. Recently I bought a "Gazelle" and I'm enjoying it. Most of the time I just have sugar-free treats I keep on hand, protein bars work well for me too. Several of my meals are a large homemade salad with lots of veggies so if you like salads you could try that. For protein I use either of or a combination of: canned salmon or tuna, pieces of chicken breast, sliced boiled eggs and tofu. I can't have dairy so I don't use cheese anymore but you could if you like. Or I have half of a small baked or pan-broiled chicken breast with one or two vegetables for dinner and I eat enoughh to get satisfied.

ABOUT WATER: Six glasses of water may still not be enough (especially now that it's summer). It's said that the ideal formula is dividing your body weight in two and then you should drink that amount in ounces of water. For example: 140lbs/2 = 70 oz. of water, that would be almost NINE 8 oz. glasses. Make sure that you continue to eat salt normally and never drink too much of this water at one time (that could be bad). Just add a bit more each day until you reach your ideal amount. And lastly, it takes about 3 days for the body to be FULLY hydrated once we're drinking "enough".

P.S. Make sure you get enough sleep, lack of it slows metabolism down.
