Hi Computer Experts...

I have the old type monitor and for about a month now and I noticed a crooked edging along the sides. I see black starting about half way down each side, and the blackness increases. Hard to explain in words what it looks like.

I tried adjusting all the monitor buttons to expand the viewed page or my desktop, but when I do, then I my desktop icons get cut off on the sides as well as scroll bar. When I adjust the view page inward, then more black starts showing. The top, bottom and half way from top on each side is fine.

The monitor is about 6 years old now. Does this mean my monitor is going to die out soon?

Thanks in advance...Angel

Some monitors have geometry adjustments as part of their on screen menu. These can correct a curving side on your monitor's image.

Older monitors and those that are less expensive have these adjustments inside the monitor case and are designed for a technician to make any corrections to their settings (I have an old IBM and Packard Bell that are like that).

Sometimes these internal adjustments can drift with age or become intermittent. You may also have the beginnings of an electronic component failure or a solder joint that is beginning to open up.

See if you can find a geometry setting menu button on your monitor as a starting point. Look in the owner's manual if you have one or try to download one by doing a Google Search for the model number of your monitor.
