Ok, I did a windows update and I've been upgraded to IE7. Now, most of it looks good, in fact I love the look of it, my web pages are much clearer, but the one problem I've found is that I've lost my favourites list.

So, help please, does anyone know how I can get my old favourites list back?

PS. I'm talking about my bookmarks!

I'll warn ahead of time, I've not used IE 7 yet, so my answer could be considered half baked Please read the whole thing too, before taking any action...

Also, you 'might' want to make a copy your Favorites folder to another location on your computer, just in case anything funky happens. Never hurts to back things up before mucking around with them!

Now! With that warning out of the way, if you go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Favorites

On your C: drive, and see that you have listings of your favorite websites in there, it's possible that for some reason or another something may not have been set right during the install.

Please consider this site's suggestion (see address below) on what to do.

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#favorites

(Copy paste the address I suppose. I don't know if that will automatically make that a link...)

Once you go to that link, scroll down a little to read:

Problems with favorites not appearing in the Organise Favorites window

It has been noticed that if Favorites folders (including subfolders) lose their system attribute they may not appear in the Organise Favorites window.

Try resetting the system attribute from the cmd window using the following command (make sure the path is correct for your machine).

ATTRIB -S C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites /S /D

You could also continue searching around a bit on google for others who've had a similar problem, there may be more info available there, thats what I usually have to do with situations like these (which is where I found the above information).

Oh! One other note. To get to the cmd window (also known as the command window) to come up as they suggest, go to Start, then Run, then type cmd and click Ok or hit enter, this will open a black window for you with the C:\> prompt. It may read a little different but it will still probably be something similar to the C:\>. You can type the ATTRIB command they show there. To exit that window type the word, exit. Or just close it from the x on the upper right.

Hope that helps! I suppose you could always uninstall and reinstall if needed...

Looks pretty simple.

No one better to explain it than MS themselves

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx

Choose Q. How do I install/uninstall Internet Explorer 7?

And they have some instructions on how to uninstall. Looks simple, also looks like IE 7 is considered an update, and removing the update puts it back to IE 6.

One thing would be though, that if it didn't, you'd probably have to install IE 6 again. That stinks to hear it's so slow! I was seriously thinking of trying to update my system!

Again, good luck!

Looks like you have to look in the "Show Updates" area to remove it.

Oh hey, PS, looks like Show updates is a check box at the top of the Add or Remove Programs window.

Once you check that box, the Windows XP - Software Updates show up in the list of applications, you shold be able to remove the update from there.

And Enc....thanks for all the help. I haven't tried it yet because other things kinda jumped up ahead of it, but I will.

Whenever I try to print anything while using IE 7, it chooses the smallest font possible and I need a magnifying glass to read the damn document. I have looked all over the Internet Options and cannot find specific tools or options to fix this problem. Any suggestions or ideas? (Feel free to skip the usual endorsements of other browsers.)

That sounds like a known problem with the product. So far there is no update that addresses that problem directly.

There is an update KB928089 (copy paste for MS article)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=EF6EA470-D51C-4BE5-A15B-74430E9E2AD4&displaylang=en#QuickInfoContainer

which addresses problems with the Phishing Filter, but I don't see anything in regards to it taking care of anything about small print.

There are comments about print being small specifically in regards to printing email from Outlook which sounds like someone may have had a fix in regards to that (see bottom of post), but those emails are also missing their header information, and are trying to print from an HTML document.

You could try messing with the Shrink to Fit/Fit to Size option to see if that makes any difference. It also doesn't 'look' to be an issue with the printer or how the printer is connected, whether they are USB connected or parrellel port connected.

If it's an issue with printing from email for Outlook, try going (in Outlook) to Tools, Options, and then in the preferences tab, click e-mail options. Then under Message Handling, check "Read all standard mail in plain text." Restart oulook, and you should be able to print e-mails fine. This removes the issue where you are trying to print HTML documents and it's printing small.

Hope this helps! Good luck RQ!

I checked the IE 7 homepage and learned that IE 7 automatically shrinks text to fit on a page, but I could not find any description of how to disable this feature. It irritates me that this change also apparently affects Adobe documents as well. (I have never used Outlook Express since it is effectively a back door that any hacker can use to penetrate your computer. Outlook Express is also notorious as one of the most poorly programs ever created.) Are there any add-ins that will allow users to modify IE 7 settings?

I have never used Outlook Express

I use Mozilla Thunderbird, and seem to have no problems with it.
