Has anyone on here had any experience with this product? I have a friend who only has access to dialup. She wants to know if WiFlyer lives up to it's discription of doubling the speed of download for dial up.

This portable Wireless Access Point permits wireless connectivity anywhere there is a telephone line or Internet-ready Ethernet cable.

High speed web page compression software for enhancing the perceived speed of dialup Internet browsing and email up to 6x times the normal experience. Works with most ISPs.

I realize that the web compression software will decrease picture quality, but my friend isn't concerned about that aspect. Her needs are almost strictly text, but doesn't want to go to a text only format, just little need for quality pictures.

Anyone have feedback on this product or one similar?

I am not familiar with the name, but most products that say they will increase your speed usually raise red flags for me. High speed internet connections, whether they are cable or DSL, are fairly inexpensive now. Any dialip speed is going to be pathetically slow. Your speed will depend on your bandwith. Also, making sure that you have a good security product on your PC to keep all the spam and other harmful spyware off the machine. Have your browser automatically empty your "Temporary Internet Files" upon closing (I can help with this).

Linksys offers a good consumer broadband wireless router. If you decide to go wireless, make sure it is a secure connection.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Metry. She doesn't have DSL or cable options where she lives, yet. She's trying to spped things up while she waits for them to both hit her area, and maybe come down in price a bit. She is also thinking of going wireless as soon as that is available.

I think there are satellite connections, but they are still pretty expensive.

Portable Internet...I like the sound of that process. I'll pass that option on to her too, although that may be a while coming to her area too.
