I am starting to get a strange message when I boot up my PC ( WinXP Media Edition SP2 ). I get a pop up saying something about a file or folder at " C:\Program " that needs to be renamed to " C:\Program1 ". Haven't found anything much online about it, if its normal or a bug, any ideas?

Get a pen and paper out and write down the message you get at boot up and post exactly what it says.

Hit the Pause key to pause boot up to keep the message on the screen (Pause should work).

It sounds like you may have to change a path to or from MS-DOS notation.

Actually, I did find something about it online .... supposedly is a Windows issue ( no surprise, I guess ), and that changing the file name needs to be done; something about Windows not finding file paths, or something similair, so it throws that message up .... I did change it, and all seems ok now.

Excellent.

If something like PROGRA~1 was in the path to a file, XP might not like it since MS-DOS support in XP is minimal.

That's one reason I stick with Win98SE. I like to use DOS for a variety of things.

~grin~ I used that trick in reverse. I couldn't get rid of MSN messenger showing up on my start up, so I changed the file name
