Notebooks/Laptops--Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony? AMD or Intel? Extended Warranties? |

I want a laptop/notebook computer. Dang it, I probably don't NEED one, but I WANT one. I know most of what I want on it, but how to decide between the brands out there, the different processors, and above all the extended warranties. I'm not looking to invest a major fortune in one either. What I wish to use it for is basically for graphics using photos and the larger programs like Adobe photoshop and a couple others. I'm not good at the programs yet, but I am learning. I also use the Office Suite for work related projects. I want enough RAM and hard drive space so that I do not have to upgrade for a long while, and I want one that travels well. Of course, the other things I am looking for are 17" screen (so I can SEE...lol), cd/dvd burner, Media card reader, wireless card. Can some of you guys out there who are pretty computer savvy on all this perhaps give your opinion on the different systems out there and your recommendations for my needs?

Of course, the other things I am looking for are 17" !7” models do not travel well, IMO, I had one for 6 months and hated it.

heres' some advice
Whatever store you go to ask if they have any new xp laptops left..
Why you ask ?
If any store has any xp's left it will be at a discount PLUS if you absolutely must have vista then most of those windows xp machines come with a free vista ugrade you and request for.
note
Windows vista is a HUGE resource hog.. 512 ram min for home and 1gig for premium.. but really you need 1gig for home and 2gigs for premium.

Build your own then you can make it any way you want it to be. There are several great resources that can help you in that quest should you be willing to take the challenge. This is a good place to start: http://laptoplogic.com/resources/detail.php?id=22
You'll have to copy and past that URL as the link feature doesn't seem to be working right now. Sorry.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to explore each suggestion. A challenge...lol...sometimes I need those. Guess I'm not the normal female shopper either, as I seem to weigh out all the pros and cons on things before I buy. Thanks again...I appreciate the suggestions very much.
