Don't use McAfee, but I have heard that the Windows firewall only works one way, blocking either incoming or outgoing threats ( not sure which ), not both, so myself I would probably use the one in McAfee.

"Don't use McAfee" is exactly right LB ....
Sweet....you can throw McAfee in the trash ....it consumes way to many CPU cycles....and no all-in-one package ever works well.
Here's a couple links to ZoneAlarm.....great firewall.....free version works just fine
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,7228-page,1-c,downloads/description.html
and AVG Antivirus......http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5......great program..
Don't worry about your firewall settings on Windows....ZA will override it!

Actually, I meant to say "I don't use McAfee...." .... I have AVG Anti Virus with Firewall on my home computer, and I'm trying Komodo ( free ) on my computer at work. Both seem to do pretty good.
I think AVG also has a free rootkit revealer .... in case you're interested.

i used the free avg before but it was only good for 30 days. You did not use the free AVG. What you did was use the trial AVG professional version. AVG free is the personal version and it really is free, forever. If you were cut off after 30 days I guarentee you that you had AVG pro. AVG, AVAST, Zone Alarm, Spybot search and destroy, and Ad Aware are all free and will take the place of any paid firewall, spyware, anti-virus software that you could ever find. Get rid of McAfee. Aztec was right on about it being not so good and you have to pay for it too. When you try to get rid of it you will find out that it is a very invasive program and you have to manually delete all components as it will not uninstall on its own and windows can not kick it out. We'll help you if you need it.
