Upon every restart after logging in (Vista Ultimate) I get a message box ( 4x ) pop-up with....

"Adjust Token Privilege Failed"

Have cleared all logs...restarted and find nothing that I can associate with this message...

Have ran "sxstrace" on the system logs.......Nothing I can discern from them!

No new software installs.........Any help or point into the right direction, Would be greatly appreciated! ( Reinstall )

A token is:
A group of security attributes permanently attached to a process when a user logs on to the operating system. An access token contains privileges and security identifiers for a user, global group, or local group.

If you have not changed any settings on an installed program then I would run a virus/malware checker since it sounds like a program

1. trying to change its security level

2. a program is trying to run another that does not have the appropriate security level.

I could be wrong about the above since I have yet to play with Vista, it is installed but I never boot into it....one day LOL

if you get it fixed share the solution

Aztec have you tried using hijack this? It is {email address removed} and is really good at removing hidden and imbedded spyware, hijackers, malware, torjans and the like. Unfortunately the output page is very technical so you need to know what you are deleting. On the other hand if you do remove something that should not be deleted hijack this makes a back up that is easily restored.

I have used this program to remove so items that were supposed to be gone yet had buired aspects in my computer that I could not get rid of. One in particular I recall was gator. That darn thing just won't let go. Hijack this blew it away and I have not had any problems since. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the advice H2O...S...

You both were right.....after few hours.(several in fact)..the solution ended up to removal of a root kit..not sure how it came into my computer...but I'll start checking those hashes again...but it surely had some serious kernel hooks embedded. Mine ended up being named...IERK...very nasty!

I found a program called IceStorm which has a process viewer, a startup analyzer, a port enumerator and more. They will reveal the presence of rootkits and the products they are stealthing , its an amazing tool.

So now I run Process Guard...which will prevent any kernel hooks.....no more root kits

Thanks again guy's......:D

Vista’s User Account Control (UAC) gave the clue with that pop up, I really hope Microsoft stays on top of it and make Vista’s security even tighter.

And thanks for sharing the solution

Maybe, just jump into Slackware .....Open Source

I personally run all three.....and recognize their strong and weak points!
