OK...so I got a new phone, and I can take any MP3 file I want to make a ringtone. I bought a 2 gig Micro SD card, an SD card adapter, and I already had an SD card reader for my computer. Transferring the files from my computer to the phone is not a problem.
Now, I want to edit a song so I have just a certain part of the song for the ringtone.
So does anyone know a good FREE program that does for MP3 files what Sound Recorder does for WAV files? I just want to chop it up...not remix

Hi EF,
They say this works great and it is a free download.
mp3DirectCut is a small tool for editing MPEG audio directly. You can remove parts, change the volume, split files or copy regions to new files. All without the need to decompress your MP3 into PCM/WAV. This saves work, encoding time and disk space. And there is no quality loss through any re-compressions.

I like WavePad. I use it mostly for recording phone calls. It has a graphical wave editor that works with the MP3 format and you can cut out a snippet of a tune for use as a ring tone easily. It's free.

I use Adobe Audition to edit any mp3 but there are a lot of freeware (I think) programs out there that will do the job.

CQ OMG THANK YOU!
WavePad is EXACTLY what I needed...and it's totally user friendly. I had my first ringtone finished within about 3 minutes of installing the program.
FIVE STARS to WavePad, and Kudos for CQ!
