I am not sure what is free there.
If you want to call from PC-To-Phone you have to pay but from pc-to-pc is free if the person online., if is not you get a voicemail box if buy it.

To join Skype is free. To talk PC to PC is free. To talk PC to Phone is very inexpensive. I have used it many times PC to PC and I have friends who talk to relatives PC to Phone all the time and they love it.
If anyone reading this doesn't know about Skype, it's a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) that allows you to connect with voice and webcam service. The connection is better than Yahoo Instant Messenger and certainly more reliable. Like MSN & Yahoo, Skype also supports I/M text.

Hi Luisa   I know many with skype from Holland and UK ect......they like it very much ......they call me all the time but to save..........I just call from messenger it is free anywhere around the world and that is how I stay in touch with half of my friends in Europe..........  just need a headset and speakers and voila or even in your own country it is free...........just like the phone but you can't move you stay at the computer it's free soo........I think it's good    xoxo
Yes........I realize that many don't want to stay at the computers but......look at how many come on thru out the night .......when they can't sleep they get online......and most of my friends are online anyway......so after getting over a $3000.00 phone bill.......I could live on the phone if I wanted too  but....most of my friends like to chat online and the time difference too......so you are not waking them up since there is a big time difference for me there is 9 hours.........so if they are online and I am then great......... either way is fine.......hope this helps you.........my little girlfriend....

Many people dislike sitting at the computer chatting on a headset and microphone. Skype sells a cordless phone that connects your regular phone and Skype (from the computer) into one convenient wireless system for around $100. It allows you to call or receive calls about 150 feet from the base.
They also sell a WiFi phone for around $120 that allows you to take your Skype calls anywhere there is WiFi service.

Luisa, is there something specific you need that Skype can do?
I ordered the Phillips phone this past weekend for my son-in-law. He calls his mother in Italy everyday on Skype. We read the reviews on some Skype phones and the Phillips had the best customer reviews.

I used to use a program called dialpad from Dialpad.com,totally free from PC to PC or from PC to phone.
Not sure if they are around anymore since companies are now charging for PC to Phone calls

They offer Yahoo Messenger free PC to PC calls, Phone-Out to make PC to Phone calls and Phone-In allows you to select a virtual phone number to accept incoming calls to your PC.
There is a cost for Phone-Out and Phone-In but the long distance rates are really low. USA to the UK, 1ยข/min.

The Sony PSP is getting the SKYPE service soon. It'll be cool being able to use it to make calls, but unfortunately not a lot of people use SKYPE.

I dont use skype hardly anymore cause I would always get people harassing me to teach them english or some guy spamming his company and things like that. I made complaints but of course skype doesnt give a damn. All they care about is people purchasing blocks of time and all that.
I do have other programs installed which I never really use as well. I just use yahoo, msn and aim.

Skype is not really 100% Free. You can make pc2pc calls but if you want to use your skype to call out to landlines its not FREE.
So basically they want more and more people buying block of time so they can use it to call out to landlines rather then listen to people telling them how some guy is spamming all the time.
