My laptop takes forever to startup and shutdown. I see there are usually about 40 processes going on all the time with it. Do any of these look suspicious?

They actually have a program you can download which is a better task manager than what it already in Windows ( imagine that  )

I just loaded that task manager from that site. It is a lot better that the OS default task manager. But that probably is because the OS task manager is purely for utility and not any sort of teaching tool. The one you suggested laid back is great for teaching and showing what all running processes are for and who they are from. Thanks for the tip.

The reason I asked was that you listed ccApp which is the Symantec Common Client and it belongs to the Norton Utilities suite of applications. It runs in the background and checks your system for worms and other malicious code.
Only one anti-virus program should be active on your system.

The first Problem you have is you have Multiple Anti Virus runing
You should go into your settings and disable the one you don't use or if its no longer needed remove it from add and remove Programs in control panel
next on the one you do use you have the settings of booth norton and avg on real time scan and most likly on herustic scan which is Advance scan that scans Everything Thoroughly
you also have your pc to do realtime scan when the pc boots and is turned off

Now you have alot of memory hog prgrams running that unless you need them in the taskbar, at startup I recommend disabling them
These steps will only disable them from starting up and showing in the task bar not from using them by opening the program from program files
First click start then click run now type msconfig hit enter
Now click the tab that says Startup
Uncheck
realsched
Process name: RealNetworks Scheduler
Product: RealPlayer (32-bit)
Company: RealNetworks, Inc.
File: realsched.exe
Security Rating:
"realsched.exe" is part of RealPlayer from RealNetworks, Inc. It is a RealNetworks Scheduler for playing sound and video files.
Then Uncheck

Disc Detector from "Creative Technology Ltd" that catches audio CD insertion and launches Creative's player.
Once you have un checked the ones I told you to Then go ahead and click Apply then Ok it will ask you to reboot, click Yes once you reboot it will warn you that msconfig was used don't worry me I select never show me this again or you can just click x close
