Last Wednesday, January 9th, I ditched a connection flight in Las Vegas because I became aware at the airport in St. Louis that the CES show was in Las Vegas. I put myself up in a hotel room so as to catch the last day of the show that features all the cool stuff coming in 2008 and what is in our future when it comes to Consumer Electronics technology.
I have posted a few images at wudmanDOTcom for all to see.
The bottom line for those seeking information on what is coming our way in flat panel televisions and other technologies can be summed up in the words:
wireless
THIN flat panels
higher definition
Most of the companies were touting wireless connections to flatter flat panels. Really, anyone that does not hang their television on the wall is missing the boat! They are flat panels darn it, hang them at eye level and dig the high definition! In pursuit of doing this easier, companies like Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG and others were pushing wireless ways to get the signal to your television.
The most outstanding panels I saw were not the 150 inch Panasonic Plasma or the 100+ inch Sharp LCD panels, but the smaller "Kuros Project" non-emissive plasma panel from Pioneer that did a black that was so black, you could not see the panel in a demo room that was 100 dark. Even the highly rated PDP-5010 could not compare in black level.
Other cool screens were the high-end LG, which was very three-d looking because of the outstanding contrast ratio. Speaking of 3D, the DLP demonstration of the the high end Mitusubishi Diamond Series DLP and the Samsung LED "89" series televisions, showed that with the 3D glasses, movies and gaming have entered a new era!
