So, I deleted my anti-virus...on accident. And now, i have none. I went to google and found a site to help me scan my computer. well, I downloaded it and it said it was free. It scanned my computer...found a crap load of trojans and now I can't get rid of them...
HELP? I have vista by the way and does anyone know of any free anti-virus software?
This is what the scan said:
Trojan.Popuper ......... 47 infections...........risk level high Trojan__ PSGuard_Desktop_hijacker...........16 infections...risk level high
The A-holes tricked me...they found them but won't get rid of them unless I pay.

SH, Go to the link below, they have a free download which will actually delete the files they find and it works great. I used it for a while and liked it so much I upgraded to their full package for complete PC protection.
AVG

Panda ActiveScan

I did the AVG this morning.
When it got through scanning everything...it found nothing. The other program lied and made me think my computer was crawling with virtual bugs so i would buy it.
Thank you everyone...I appreciate it.

the thing you must remember is that even though AVG is good it is limited in what it checks for when it comes to spyware and trojans.....an anti-virus alone is not going to catch everything no mater which one you use.....you need it along with a spyware and a trojan scanner ........

Sweetheart, try Ccleaner as well. ( stands for crap cleaner ). I will clean your puter. Temp files ect. It also has a feature to " fix issues " If any damage has been done, or to simply repair files. This is completely free, and very helpful..

Do you think Panda has those things? I swear to all that is holy... I thought you said "Do you think Prada has those things?" But you didn't, so my pithy remark is all for naught.

To compare the effectiveness of the main antivirus prigrams, watch the constant updates at AV COMPARATIVES. They are not affiliated with any companies, so they remain neutral in their findings.
The most effecftine anti-virus programs currently as of the latest tests are Kaspersky and Nod32. For online scans, I suggest Kaspersky: HERE

The last time that I had an issue was shortly after 9/11 and it was known that UBL was operating out of Afghanistan under the protection of the govt. I went to the official gov't website and some dipstick set up the site to execute a script with a backdoor trojan (my protection alerted me to the nastygram). The next day that site (and server) had a massive denial of service attack and it was never up again. Guess they pissed off the wrong people

Zone Alarm is free too.
With that you shouldn't need anything else.

Good to see you back mischoos. Zone alarm is good, very good. In fact it can be too good because sometimes it blocks a program that you don't want to be blocked. And even if you configure it correctly it will still block without acknowledgment. I have had this happen a few times with ZA.

Zone Alarm is free too.
With that you shouldn't need anything else.
The free version of ZoneAlarm is ONLY a firewall.
ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite are paid versions that include Antivirus and Anti-Spyware protection. Check their website for actual product descriptions.
Don't be fooled thinking a firewall by itself is sufficient protection.
