i`m music producer and i`m having trouble about this and i`d really like to have some advice if u can help :

I need a hi-end performance notebook for music production and mastering which is really demanding concerning Processing abilities ... i see many music producers using mac , i know that before people used mac because it had different ...more stable setup compatible with it`s own mac programs.

Now both Macbook and non-apple laptops are offering same processor technology ...

Apart from great looks ... can apple give me more in terms of performance and stability ????

For music IMO yes Mac is your choice...

but i will also add that all the BS about MAC having less or no security holes is that just BS...also Mac is slower to address and patch security issues....but it's heads above as far as music production is concerned....

I would think that this decision would be dictated by which machine will support the application software that you intend to use.

Since Apple switched to the Intel architecture, there is very little to differentiate the choices based on processor. The price points are usually better for PCs because of increased competition.

The other variable is the operating system: which do you prefer to use or are more comfortable with?

Best of luck.

Ok here’s the deal…as you stated processing is no long an issue and there is no need to even consider that any more. There really is not need to discuss any hardware, it’s a mute discussion So throw all that argument out the window. That’s not the issues you need to even address.

The next issue is probably cost. Sure Mac is a lot more expensive and not as upgradeable as a PC. So if cost is you biggest issue then there is no need to continue is there? You’re gonna pick a PC plain and simple.

But if you’re looking for the best without cost being an issue then we are here. The key words I got from your question was you see many producers using a Mac for their music production right? So who is your cliental going to be? What software platforms will they expect you to support ? Sure PC and Mac now have a lot of shareable software platforms and most file formats. Until you go back to some of the older software. Then there is where you can run into some major issues. You may say will some of the old software doesn't run on the newer hardware. True but lots of it has upgradeable software that will. You may say will I’ll just tell them the new software is better. Guess what, they don’t care they will want what they are use to using period. So you will be out of the market for their business. Since you said just starting out, I’d think you wanted more of an advance to have a wider music cliental base since you stated you want it for music.

But if you truly want to have the widest market advantage and have the best you would have a PC and a Mac. One reason is networking them now is easy where it use to be difficult for most. You would then have the best of both worlds. If you had both then you would have the advance of being available to work with the newer video game cliental and all your music cliental with the available software. Plus you could multitask during your production between the two more than likely speeding up your production time. Which means more time for more projects.

So that’s my reasons. I’m sure not the answer you expected …. And yes I’ve worked with both and I basically use a PC for everything i do…but I‘m not in the music industry or graphics.

Nah essentially said the same thing that I did, but more eloquently and with more detail. It's all about the actual application program(s) that you intend to run to interact with clients.

A "best of both worlds" solution could be a Mac capable of running both operating systems as described here. There are also instances of OS X running on a PC, but to my knowledge this has not been supported by Apple.

Again, best of luck.

A good rule of thumb......if you are going to be using the computer mainly for "artsy" type things (music, art, design, etc) you should go with a MAC.

That has been their focus all along.

They knew they could not compete with the microsoft/ibm type of "pc" in the business environments, so they stuck with what they knew the best.

Business = pc
art = mac

If your looking for the most horsepower per dollar spent, a PC will give you the best price to performance ratio.
If stability is your biggest concern, the smaller pool of Mac compatible peripherals increases hardware stability, not to mention that the Mac OS is just a superior written Operating system.
If you want Mac stability with PC value, Linux might be is your best bet, only problem is, although the list of compatible software and drivers for Linux is ever growing, it is still small in comparison to the other two mammoth Operating systems.

As Capo stated, what is your recording program of choice?
Find out its native operating system, and this may help you decide..
For instance, Protools is available on Leopard [Mac] or XP/Vista PC, but its native platform is the Mac, and it is not only more stable, but has increased features and function on that platform.

I recommend ,if you are doing serious audio, have a separate machine devoted to it, with no internet and minimal other programs .
