I just finished updating my computers to service pack 3 for windows xp. Anyone else updated this yet? Have any of you had any problems with it?

As far as I can tell all my files, folders, and programs are running fine with no problems. I did read a lot of negative material online about service pack 3 so I am curious what any of you guys or gals think about this add on update.

Thanks

S

The IT guy at a company I do work for, told me he installed it on a Dell desktop and it has been running with no glitches, no slowdowns.

to be honest Seal i have not played with XP SP3 yet... my personal is Vista...

but i did read this a couple of days ago ( just an FYI)

Reports are all over about problems with some users installing Windows XP SP3; their systems go into a continuous reboot cycle.

Now Microsoft has provided an explanation, and it's an interesting one. The problem occurs on AMD-based systems where Windows was build from an OEM image captured on an Intel-based system. Perhaps it never mattered before, but in such cases, and depending on a particular registry key, an Intel-specific driver (Intelppm.sys) is loaded.

Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB88372 explains this some more and gives instructions for what to do if you are experiencing the problem. There is even more on the subject in this forum post on microsoft.com.

Yeah I read that one too nah among others. That is why I was wondering what others experiences were. I have upgraded four computers to service pack 3 for XP with no ill effects. That makes me wonder if those systems that are having problems had some sort of illness prior to the upgrade. I don't know if that would affect the upgrade or not but that is the only thing that comes to mind since I go to extra efforts to keep my systems clean. Thanks for the input.

BTW in regards to chatillion's post I have noticed a slight increase in system speed. I'm not sure why that would be other than possibly removing some of the xp overhead issues. At this point it is just an observation.
