A few years ago, I purchased 2 new 256MB AGP video cards for my home computers. They were from different manufacturers but both contained NVIDIA chipsets.
I had tried other video cards (that supported different chipset manufacturers) including on-board video cards and I liked NVIDIA best.
These cards were both flawless in performance and (at the time) perfect for my needs.
I know the industry has moved on from AGP slot, but I have no problems using older technology, especially when retailers drop the prices to move out older inventory.
Last year, I started running dual monitors. Both of these cards supported dual display, but the second display wasn't as high a resolution as the primary. I wanted something more than the card was designed to do. So... I went shopping for another video card. At the time, I listened to the salesman in the store and bought an ATI 512MB video card that supported ultra-high resolution for both monitors. It didn't have NVIDIA chips and I was reluctant to use it. The salesman said I would like the ATI because it's a faster processor and would run all my applications.
Well, It had some compatibility problems in the beginning and I uninstalled the card and reinstalled it using only the drivers and not the manufacturers control panel software. It worked much better, but every so often it became glitchy.
Yesterday, I was shopping for a PCI video card to upgrade an older computer I'm taking to the office and I found a 512MB AGP card from a no-name manufacturer called SPARKLE using the NVIDIA chipset that wasn't available when I bought the ATI. So... I pulled the ATI card last night and installed the SPARKLE. It's perfect.
I'm back with NVIDIA and both monitors are running at 1680 x 1050, top resolution without any problems.

Why two monitors?
Gaming or drafting?

Bad eyesight...
Seriously, I prefer to have a few applications open in different places and not overlapped. Dual monitors work perfect for that.
If I'm working, I can have photos of my projects open and type correspondence without having to switch applications.
I had no idea dual monitors were so easy to setup... what a great idea.

What are you able to set the refresh rate at for that resolution?
To reduce eye strain I consider 85 a minimum and 100 as a prefered refresh rate even if you have to drop the resolution to acheive this.

Yes If you have LCD, the default 60 hertz refresh rate should be fine.
