Hallo, I am new on this site, but I enjoyed reading a lot of posts and... it feels as if I "know" some of you :) I have been reading a lot about scams, and I would like to share my experience and ask a question as a cyber-ignorant.
I am actively doing online dating (though not on this site...I am here for this fantastic funny interesting forum!) and more than once I have been asked from the guy I contacted on the site to contact them on a private email address. Aaah, honesty! I have dome it of course and for a ceratin time I got lucky- I think they were ok people. I also sent my pics to a couple of them I do not do that anymore. However, lately a guy has asked me right away to contact me through a private email address and I did it... then he told me to contact him on another one.. at which point I became suspicious. Long story short, the address from which I wrote hm, which worked fine for long time, suddenly has problems. I cannot open any email, nor delete emails anymore. I am afraid he is involved in this problems in some way.
My question is: what are the risks of giving a private email address (with no real name or phone number, ecc..) versus talking via a website? I write from my PC at home. can they infect the PC or something else?? please help me, all of you cyber-expert. I do not want to be harmed but at the same time I do not want to become paranoid.
thanks a lot, and... guys/girls are you cool. (this is off-topic, I know)

if you open an attachment from someone whether you knew them or not you could have gotten a virus, keylogger, trojan or other things. He could have know and he might not have know his machine was infected ...
if you have an anti-virus on your pc running then do a scan and make sure it is updated if not then you can do a free online scan... but i'd also do a trojan scan as well as they are different from a virus and need to be scanned by a trojan scanner as well.....
if you need any help go to the computer threads (further down the list) and you can find it there and if not just ask......

Hi Nah, thanks for your answer! I did not open any attachment, I just opened his emails and answered them. I do a computer scan every now and then with spybot, it's a free program I found on internet. I guess it scans for trojans as well, but not sure -am not so strong on computer technology (although I work on microprocessors, its heart...go figure!).
keep up with your posts and answers, I love to read them on the dating and romance thread.
cheers!!S&P
