It's interesting to watch this play out on here. Now I can see Robo's smilies, but not Mystery's. LOL

Do you see mine?

I wonder if you have that one of Robo's in your cache -- then again, you dumped your cache, didn't you.

Really weird! Doggone Turkeys who came up with that mess.

Yep, I see yours, Sunny. I hadn't been able to see Robo's though since last night...until now.

Sorry i've been at the hospital all day and just got home Pali....

Here is the thing ..XP DNS cache holds positive and negative information to speed up access for 24 hours... Therefore anything that you visited (good website or bad one) will still be pulled up because your windows XP DNS cache can still be out of date for certain entries....

You can go to Start>Run>then type in cmd (it will bring up a command prompt) > now type in ipconfig /flushdns (space between ipconfig and /)>then you should get a reply saying it was successful then just type exit to close

this will clear/clean your DNS cache

you can do registry changes so it will not cache negative errors, change the time to live and others things but i'll not go into that here......

Dang it! It didn't work, Nah. Of course, I guess I should have closed my browser while doing it, and perhaps reboot. I'll try that. Thanks hon.

And Capo....this is a screenshot of what I get when I type in http://209.17.66.11/

Screenshot

I can't log in with that, either. I also checked in with the Comcast forums. As of now, I'm putting my pictures of Picasa.

I can see Sunny's emotes, but still can't see Robo's.

That screenshot is the same thing I see when I enter the IP address too...

And my daughter found a way around the mess, but you can't log on. She was in myspace, and found somebody who's photobucket pics were working. She clicked the pic and VIOLA! She was in photobucket.

That IP address worked from here, but I'm not only in a different area...I'm in a different country!

By using the IP address, we bypassed the DNS (Domain Name Server) but, alas, it is different up where you are.

Nah, is it a different command with Vista to flush my DNS? I tried what you said, and I just got a message that said "This operation requires elevation". Somehow I don't think that means I need to hold my laptop over my head and try again

This was in the Photobucket forums, which neither Pali nor EF can probably see, lol:

email from an admin said:
"I have been informed by my Operations Team that this is related to the DNS
issues that we experienced on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, you will need
to have a forum administrator flush the DNS on the server that the forum is
hosted on. Also, you may need to contact the ISP for that server and have
inquire about flushing their DNS cache as well. As soon as the DNS cache has
cleared or expired, the issue should be resolved. Unfortunately, Photobucket has no control over when this will happen."

And more potentially invisible info from Photobucket...

http://forums.photobucket.com/showthread.php?t=27024

Does that mean MD needs to flush their DNS on the server because that's the one this forum is hosted on? Or does your local Comcast need to do something? It's only affecting certain Photobucket users, right? And the effects sound screwey and inconsistant -- It's not just this site, right? Just certain people's pics on all their sites?

I did see where they said to use the "contact us" customer service form...but ~grin~ how the heck are you supposed to do that if you can't get into Photobucket at all?

====

Here's the PB "contact us" page, in case you're able to click and see it from here:

LOL, I just saw your "What were they thinking?" thread...and checked the URLs (Photobucket).

I hope Pali's is back up and that she's not spending all day re-loading everything in the world on that other site She has millions of pictures!

(~grin~ I'd forgotten that you're a Hogwarts Wannabe, hehe.)

Photobucket never had a problem; only some of the Domain Name Servers were compromised. DNSs are actually networked together--if a match cannot be found on one, another one is searched.

I don't know...I'm still going to start putting pictures up on Picasa. I also have a Webshots that I pay for and one of my Photobuckets is paid for. I'm going to use PB for my gifs and smilies and put my important pictures on the others. I also have the online photoshop, but it's not very user friendly.

Thanks for hanging in there with EF and I .

Picasa is an excellent choice--for many reasons.
