My freakin laptop fell off the arm of my recliner when I got up to go to the printer, and it hit the corner of my coffee table and cracked the screen.
When I say crack, the screen isnt physically cracked, but there is a digital "spot" on it where it looks like your windshield was hit by a rock. I can still work with it, but it is verrrrrry annoying.
I am checking to see if I got the accident coverage with my warranty, but if I dont have it, any ideas on how to fix this?

I have a Toshiba laptop with a 17" screen. The screen went bad just after its warranty expired. When I visited a Toshiba repair center, they said it would cost $700 for the screen plus the labor to change it.
I bought a 19" LCD external display, a mouse, and a keyboard for around $200 and now have even better resolution. I was rarely using the portability of my laptop, so this solution works well for me.

Yeah, that might be what I have to do. It sucks.
Dell wont fix it. They said I have the warranty, but not the accident coverage (insurance). Whats funny, is that we renewed the warranty through an email dell sent us, but it didnt mention the accidental coverage. I smell a scam.

Do a search on eBay .. they have new replacement LCD displays for under 200 bucks
Probably find one for less used .. Even if its a whole unit with a dead board

Thanks for the advice. That might be my only option.
I am going to work around it for now. Its more of an irritation than anything. It was my own fault, so I will just reap it for a while. haha

Its getting worse now. Now part of the central impact area have turned black. It looks kinda like a road runners shadow or something.

This bitch cost over $3000!!!!!!
Im going to use it until I cant use it anymore. My only consolation is that I screwed it up myself. That beats someone else breaking your stuff by a country mile.

lj, unless you need the laptop to be portable, do what Capo suggested. I did that too, just hooked up the monitor as a primary and never looked at the laptop screen. Better picture quality, and didn't drive me crazy.

lj...how about a glare screen, just an idea to see if that would cut down the focal damage. I also thought about liquid glass, like what auto glass repairs use on small window cracks, etc. You could ask them.

you already have a dead pixel on your LCD (or a black screen of death) and it needs a replacement. You need an external monitor as an alternative viewing instead your laptop screen. Go to ebay and you might find a replacement for your LCD

You could always check out computer stores and see if they do laptop repairs. Maybe they might be cheaper then going straight to the source for your laptop problems.

I broke my laptop screen not long ago also.
Have you considered taking a peak at any online auction sites?
I purchased my new screen from EBAY, and installed it into my computer. Which surprisingly was very easy to do.
Good luck!
