Posts: 276 I bought one of these webcams 4 or 5 weeks ago to set it up peering out the shop window so I can see who comes in and out the front door. Unfortunately, they moved the rack system that holds the wood inventory and it's now in front of my window blocking the view.
So... I decided to replace an old Logitech webcam I've been using. I found a few quirks about setting up this webcam so I'll do a mini review here.

First, they assume this is going to be used online for the intended purpose of I/M video chatting.... that explains why you MUST have internet access to install the software. Most of the programs I've installed (in the past) run from the supplied CD and ask to go to the internet for drivers or updates. In this case, it's mandatory. I haven't checked to see if Microsoft has any downloadable files in the event you are installing to a computer without internet access. So, if you plan to make home videos still photos or any other cam need that doesn't require internet, be sure you can access the internet for the purpose of installing the software.

It seemed to take forever to install this thing. Software first, device after. But it powered up and seems to work well. I like it's video quality better than the Logitech. I have to say a lot has happened in the last few years with video technology and this webcam does a better job than the 3 year old Logitech.
I'll probably try recording some test images and video e-mails to see how well they come out. I haven't checked the built-in microphone so that's on my list of things to review.

The widescreen lens also picks up more things in the room that the Logitech didn't see. OK, so I need to tidy up my office...
