Oh yeah....and especially wireless - coming here from NY, it was absolutely incredible being able to take the laptop out on the patio, or on the swing by the pool, with music being piped out there...sheer bliss, right up until July and August.

LOL Sunny, I can't believe you still had that 386, I remember you mentioning that years and years ago! Ya know, that could be considered an antique now, maybe it's worth someting!

~grin~ this is a different 386...my 'decent' laptop broke and I needed to use my dad's "reject" in the interim (for like 6 months?? lordy I was patient)
But now I'm COOKIN'!! eMachines T6524 AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz / 1GB DDR / 200GB HDD / Dual Layer DVD±RW/ Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 / Flash Media Reader / Windows XP Media Center 2005 (catching breath) with Acer AL1916s / 19" / 12ms / 500:1 / SXGA 1280 x 1024 / Silver-Black / LCD Monitor --- all for about $600!
...connected to hi-speed cable

I was cracking up. I started out on a 386DX. How funny!
I'm so glad you've stepped into the modern ages. We are in trouble now. SunBabe will be signed into MD on several windows, and she will have a few others open doing research. Talk about multi-tasking! Look out!!!

Must have missed my post two weeks ago. Just built my first computer. Darn faster than any I have seen yet. Doesn't mean there are not faster ones around I just have not seen them.
Any way. Asus MB with Realtech surround sound. Wanted a sound card but the MB profile won't let me use one. A BFG SLI viedo card, only one this time around. AMD Athlon Toledo, the lower end one, Dual Core. Two Hitachi 80 GB hard drives configured seperately. Thermaltake case, full tower. Wireless internet and home network with another computer (Dell ). 6 external USB ports and 4 internal. 6 SATA ports, regular and 6 SATA ports for RAID. 19" View Sonic flat panel. Logitech speakers. Logitech web cam. 8 cooling fans and internal diagnostic package. Asus overclock software package, don't know if I will ever use that part of it. And water cooling capicity for the processor. Floppy mulit media drive and ports. Twin Sony combo drives, that means they can cover all the bases as far as removable discs are concerned. Windows XP pro. Windows office pro. Auto CAD. And various other little nick nack programs.
I think that about covers it.

I did see your post seal, but most of it was in a different language. Congrats to you too. That's one mighty computer! Didn't you say you were going to get/build another one too?

Watch out Seal, once you've built one you'll be looking for excuses to upgrade it or build another, it's a slippery slope....

It's really dangerous looking through the TigerDirect catalog...I already can think of a bunch of upgrades, but then have to remind myself: "$600, Sunny...you got a GOOD thang!"
(The built in media card reader is a super function -- I was able to rescue a whole slew of photos from a couple defunct digital cameras Smart Cards and SD's-- instantly )
